Greg Teel
Co-Director Pastoral Institute
Lead Pastor Calvary Baptist Church, Delta, CO
Greg Teel was born an Army brat to a rural Baptist preacher’s daughter from Tennessee and military father from rural South Dakota. He was the fourth of five siblings, a blended family. Born in Augsburg, Germany, his father and mother took him as a toddler to the Bavarian Alps often and that began his love affair with mountains. As a preschooler, he lived in the Great Smoky Mountains outside Cleveland, TN. Moving to Colorado Springs where his dad was discharged, Greg lived his early childhood in Fountain, CO and then moved at age nine to the small rural farm community of Florence, CO where his two war veteran father worked as a corrections officer at a maximum security prison. Greg's mother led him to the Lord at age nine along with a children's church leader, Virginia Elliott.
Athletics and scholastics were his key into college at Fort Lewis, Durango where he became a student leader in the collegiate ministry known today as CRU. Time in and around the San Juan Mountains just fueled his love affair for high places. His involvement there led to his marrying the love of his life, Kim, and they have engaged in church based ministry for the rest of their lives. Greg worked in the mental health field after graduating top of his Chapman University class, Summa Cum Laude with a Master in Arts in Psychology, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling in 1998. He worked in a variety of settings including his own private practice, adult jail, locked mental health facilities, outpatient, foster homes, and county social work in the mental health field for 11 years. Greg worked at that time primarily with juvenile sex offenders, youth criminals, gang members, and young adults in correctional settings. He worked as a social worker in an award winning elite unit designed to lessen the recidivism rates of criminal youth. In 2000, Greg became a school counselor for a 650 child elementary school in Fountain Fort Carson School District #8 for the next six years. During this time he did further postgraduate studies in school counseling.
In 2006, Greg then went to a Gateway
Seminary at the same time he began ministry full time as a Children’s/ Associate Pastor at a large SBC church, Vista Grande Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, CO. Greg received his Master in Divinity and was awarded the William O. Crews Leadership Award, the highest honor of the Gateway Seminary system. Greg was accepted into a Doctorate in Ministry program in 2021, yet withdrew to prioritize some family issues with his children over that life goal. He is actively looking forward to the day he returns to those studies. Greg has also done missions trips to Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico. One of Greg's daughters is currently a full time missionary overseas with her husband.
Greg has always lived a life of passion for such blessings as his wife and three adult children, football, reading, friendships, theology, traveling, and preaching. He has also been very passionate about backpacking, hunting, pastoral ministry, jazz music, counseling, and his most recent hobby, fishing. Greg is most passionate about discipleship/spiritual formation for others to grow in Christ. On his favorite days, you can find Greg either somewhere up high in the mountains with his ESV Bible, a stack of theology and spiritual formation books and a fishing pole spending time alone with God on a lake, on a date with his wonderful wife just enjoying her company and presence, or simply leading others into a deeper, more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Greg’s greatest life blessings have been lifetime love affairs with his Lord Jesus Christ and Greg’s wife, Kim, as well as fathering his three children.
Brandon Mathis
Co-Director
My name is Brandon Mathis, and I am honored to serve as the Lead Pastor of Celebration Church in Montrose, CO.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from Colorado State University, which has greatly contributed to my ability to effectively connect with and engage our congregation. Additionally, I have pursued a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Ministry from Southeastern Seminary, which has deepened my understanding of the Word and equipped me to serve our community more faithfully.
On a personal note, I am blessed to be married to my wonderful wife, Melissa, and together we are raising three amazing children. Family is incredibly important to me, and I strive to lead by example in both my professional and personal life.
One of my greatest passions is discipleship. I firmly believe in the transformative power of walking alongside others in their faith journey, and it brings me great joy to witness individuals grow deeper in their relationship with God. Preaching is another area where I find immense fulfillment, as I have the opportunity to share God's message of love, grace, and hope with our congregation every week. Furthermore, I have a keen interest in theology and enjoy exploring its profound mysteries.
Outside of my pastoral responsibilities, I find joy in various hobbies. I am an avid racquetball and ping pong player, always up for a friendly match. Additionally, I love playing disc golf and engaging in any activity that captures the interest of my children. Being present in their lives and fostering their interests is incredibly important to me.
